Let’s give a warm welcome to the Organic Panama Extra Dark 80% bar from Equal Exchange. $3.75 for 3.5 oz. Vegan, soy-free, gluten-free. I’m pretty new to the world of haute chocolate but I know that single source bars are all the rage now. You’re supposed to be able to taste the beans – I can’t, but I fully believe some folks can.
Just so you know your sources: the chocolate liquor comes from COCABO co-op in Panama, and the cocoa butter is from CONCADO in the Dominican Republic. Fair trade sugar from Paraguayan co-ops and vanilla from Madagascar.
This is a sweet-tasting bar, nice and lively. Bit like wine or dark berries. This is a a solid everyday yuppie+hippie chocolate that you can feel good about eating. It’s tasty, not too complex, not too expensive, and they take care of the ethics for you. Not bad for a snack break!
