This special edition of the Sunday brunch sonnet comes to you on the Saturday of a two-brunch weekend! I do not think I could possibly hope for anything more delightful. I and the five other members of my Grad School Brunch Program (an initiative that used brunch to ease the pain of working on applications) trekked to the South End to belatedly celebrate having finished the application process.
I don’t get how this restaurant’s not broke.
You pay them only $7.95.
Despite the price, their prix-fixe is no joke,
as course after delicious course arrives.
Fresh cornbread I’d have happily eaten plain
became a treat with jam, spiked with chilies.
An empanada filled with sweet plantains,
and dollops of smooth cinnamon cream cheese.
I then consumed huevos, ranchero style,
which was, I think, the table’s weakest dish.
My neighbor’s scrambled eggs, though, made me smile.
I snuck chorizo after she’d finished.
With coffee and hot tea included too,
we left, a very happy, sated crew.
